Design kits

Four design systems, each one tied to the shipped product.

The kits and component systems behind the work on this site: one generated from production code, one that renders this site’s own CSS, and two built for engineering teams at national and enterprise scale.

A kit generated from the running code, so it cannot drift.

Greenridge is one product on six surfaces: four product doors and two design showcases, all pulling from one token system, so no surface can drift from production.

Two design showcases are built from the production components: a curated explorer and a full Storybook workshop, with a parity check across the two so a documented component and a shipped one cannot quietly disagree. The Figma library is generated from the code rather than kept beside it.

A kit that renders against this site’s production CSS.

The studio kit shows this site’s type, colour, spacing and components rendered live from the same stylesheet the pages use. Nothing is redrawn for the kit, so it is a mirror of what shipped rather than a drawing of it.

The site is part of the practice: a live system for publishing, testing and explaining the work. The kit is where that system is visible as a system.

An atomic system that engineering and contractors built from.

During Amtrak’s platform transition, components existed but nothing connected them. Chris set up the atomic design system the booking redesign shipped on: elements to patterns to templates, responsive behaviour and interaction patterns defined across breakpoints, delivered production-ready for engineering and contractor handoff.

The booking redesign, assigned seating and the customer testing that shaped them ran on this system, for web and the mobile apps of a national booking product.

A system built from an audit of what was already shipping.

Chris joined with the platform already in market, audited the existing user research, the React components and the feedback backlog, and built the design system and components the enterprise and government teams worked from, then prototyped new features and improvements on it.

After the SaaS product was sunset, the same practice carried into the training platform the consulting side needed: coursework, learner progress and webinars in one place.
